Sabak Bernam MP Pleads Not Guilty To Making False Claims
SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Sabak Bernam Member of Parliament, Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakri, pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here on Tuesday to eight counts of making false claims when he was the State Assemblyman for Sungai Ayer Tawar last year.
Abdul Rahman is alleged to have committed the offences at the Sabak Bernam District Office from Jan 21 to Feb 12 2008 and is being charged under Section 11 (c) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 which can be punished under Section 16 of the same Act.
As an agent of the Malaysian government, Abdul Rahman is charged with intending to deceive his principal by making false claims for programmes or activities which actually were not implemented.
Among the false claims made were purchasing prizes and souvenirs and organising receptions for Motivational Programmes for students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Penilaian Menengah Rendah, and Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah in his state constituency.
He is also charged with making claims using false information on People-Friendly Programmes and KRT Family Day in the Sungai Air Tawar State Constituency, 'Program Forum Perdana Peringkat Mukim Bagan Nakhoda Omar', People-Friendly Programme and Kemas Teachers' Family Day and Maulidur Rasul Celebration in his constituency.
In the charge read before Session Court Judge Syafeera Mohd Said, he is accused of making false claims worth RM10,000 for each of the eight charges.
Syafeera fixed bail at RM30,000 with one surety for Abdul Rahman and set the hearing dates from April 26, 2010 to May 7 next year.
Deputy Public Prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Datuk Abdul Razak Musa appeared for the prosecution while Abdul Rahman was represented by Datuk Salehuddin Saidin.
Meanwhile at another Sessions Court here, Abdul Rahman's aide, Rosli Busro, 41, pleaded not guilty before Judge Mat Ghani Abdullah, to collaborating with Abdul Rahman in committing the eight offences.
Salehuddin, who also represented Rosli, asked the court to fix bail at RM5,000 for his client as he could not afford to pay the amount proposed because he had to support his aged mother.
Mat Ghani later fixed bail at RM9,000 with one surety and set Dec 14 for mention of the case before Judge Syafeera after allowing application by the prosecution that Rosli be tried together with Abdul Rahman.
