Mawan Tells SPDP Members To Place Party Above Self Interest

SIBU, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- All members of the Sarawak Progressive Democrative Party (SPDP) must place party above self interest at all times, its president Datuk Sri William Mawan Ikon said here Sunday night.

He warned that he would not compromise any efforts by individuals or groups to undermine its existing peace, unity and solidarity.

"We have seen how some very established political parties have been affected when certain members want to translate their personal agendas into reality. We should not go through such pitfalls. We should avoid it," he said at a swearing-in ceremony of new committee members for eight of the party divisions from here, Kanowit and Tamin, at the Civic centre.

Mawan said all members should focus on how best to further strengthen and consolidate the party to allow it to continue playing its roles as a respected and worthy member of the Barisan Nasional (BN).

He added that although SPDP was a small party, this should not prevent its members from contributing excellently to the overall BN interest, of serving the people and in accordance with the 1Malaysia concept.

Meanwhile, he expressed hope that the party would be given another assistant minister's post during an expected reshuffle of the state cabinet by Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, soon.
