Umno Youth Still Prudent On Karpal's Rudeness
KOTA BAHARU, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth is acting prudently and not going overboard on the rudeness of Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament Karpal Singh towards the institution of rulers and lately labeling the movement as 'damned' ('celaka').
Its chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said what happened in Parliament could not be taken as youth members going overboard and scaring an individual.
"What happened in Parliament only involved 20 members compared to 700,000 outside said to be uneasy wth Karpal.
"We do not act like the opposition which is capable of throwing stones and laying in the middle of roads. That is not the Umno Youth way," he told reporters after meeting Kelantan Umno Youth members here today.
Hishammuddin said Karpal Singh had acted insolently especially in labelling Umno Youth as 'damned' and to any self-respecting person such a word would invoke anger.
He said what was done by Karpal Singh should be stopped quickly out of worry that if nothing was done there was a possibilty a "more problematic" situation could arise.
"The Malays are sensitive about the position of the rulers and to accuse us in the bullets issue is akin to Karpal playing with fire," he said.
He said the situation was still under control and Umno Youth members were still acting within limits.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin called on all Umno members to be united immediately after the Umno general assembly to face the two by-elections in Perak and Kedah.
"The winners must strengthen the party and the vanquished actually are not losers but rather have a role to bring back unity.
"Do we want to damage the family atmosphere just to win because what is more important is to ensure that the Barisan Nasional wins in Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau," he said.
Hishammuddin also urged all quarters to be careful in handling the issue over the word 'Allah' in Christian magazines as it was very sensitive and could raise religious issues.
