Two Children Hurt By Shrapnel
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Two children were injured by shrapnel when a pump gun belonging to a security guard accidentally let off at the Tenaga Nasional (TNB) branch office in Jalan Klang Lama here on Tuesday.
Ahmad Faiz Roslan, 12, badly hurt the big toe of his right foot while his cousin, Muhamad Faris Abdullah, 12, injured the sole of his right foot, said Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah.
He said the boys were sitting in the waiting area while Muhamad Faris's mother was paying her electricity bill when the incident occurred at about 2.40pm.
"A security guard dropped his pump gun and it accidentally fired and the boys were hurt by shrapnel. They were taken to the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM)," he told Bernama.
He said a 60-year-old security guard, who fled the scene, was arrested not far from the TNB office.
Ahmad Faiz's father, Roslan Ahmad, 51, said doctors would operate on his son, who also injured two other toes on his left foot.
"Faris also hurt three toes on his right foot," said Roslan when met at the PPUM.
Roslan said he and his family, who were residing in Penang, were on holiday in the capital.
Ahmad Faiz and Muhamad Faris are supposed to attend a one-month Quran memorisation course starting Thursday.
A TNB officer, who visited the children, declined comments.
