Seniman Exploration To Promote 1Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Promoting the 1Malaysia Concept is not just the responsibilty of the government. Rather, local artistes can also play their part.

With this in mind, Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman), an association representing local artistes, has taken proactive steps to support the concept.

This morning, it embarked on an exploration, 'Kembara Seniman, Jelajah Malaysia', to several states in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Apart from Seniman members, representatives from the information communication and culure ministry, Finas and the media are participating in the exploration.

A total of 52 participants are involved in the exploration.

Seniman president Datuk Mustapha Maarof said the exploration would not only support the 1Malaysia Concept, but also promote the local film industry.

"During the exploration, we will also promote local films," he said.

Two of the latest films, 'Jalang' which is currently being screened, and 'Dua Hati Satu Jiwa' which will be screened soon, are being promoted during the exploration.

Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim flagged off the exploration which would first cover Tanjung Karang (Selangor) before leaving for Ipoh (Perak), Kuantan (Pahang), Melaka and Muar (Johor) before heading to East Malaysia.

The minister hoped that with the involvement of local artistes, the 1Malaysia Concept which was mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, would be further understood by the public.

"Everytime you, ladies and gentlemen, give a handshake in Tanjung Karang or Seremban, I hope you will utter a few words that will give more understanding on 1Malaysia (concept)...this is the first step of a milestone journey for us to build our nation and race," he said.

Exploration members will put up song and dance performances at selected venues.
