More Evacuated In Kelantan

KOTA BAHARU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan rose to 793 people this morning compared to 268 last night.

A state flood operations room spokesman told Bernama that 489 of the evacuees were from Pasir Mas while the rest were from Kuala Krai.

The main road in Sungai Durian, Kuala Krai, as well as the Jalan Rantau Panjang - Panglima Bayu alternative road were currently closed to light vehicles, he said.

The water levels at the Sungai Kelantan in Kusial, Tanah Merah and Tangga Krai in Kuala Krai as well as at Sungai Golok in Jenob, Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang had risen above the danger level, he added.

The weather in the state this morning was cloudy.

In KUANTAN, the number of evacuees at the Hardcore Poor Housing Project in Kampung Darat remained at 24 people, the Pahang flood operations centre said.

The evacuees were from Kampung Sungai Ular.

"No evacuation is reported so far in other districts," he said when contacted.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees rose to 2,309 this morning, comprising 711 people in Kemaman, 595 in Hulu Terengganu, 516 in Besut, 330 in Setiu, 138 in Dungun while the rest were in Marang.

A state national security council spokesman said as of this morning, 20 state roads were closed to all vehicles, mostly in Hulu Terengganu and Setiu.

The water levels at the Sungai Besut in Kampung La, Jajar Dam; Sungai Setiu at Jambatan Permaisuri and Ibu Bekalan; and Sungai Narus in Kampung Langkap, Pengkalan Merbau and Kampung Bukit were above the danger level, he said.

No untoward incident reported so far in the second wave of flooding in Terengganu, he added.
