Sungai Golok Breaches Alert Level, Residents Told To Prepare For Floods
KOTA BAHARU, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Riverine folk along Sungai Golok and those living in the surrounding low-lying areas have been reminded to prepare for floods as the water level of the river has breached the alert mark in Rantau Panjang.
The reading as at 10am today was 7.41m, past the alert level of 7m. The danger level is 9m.
The water level at Jenob, Tanah Merah, is also fast reaching the alert level of 21.50m, with its current reading at 20.20m. The danger level is 23.50m.
The water levels of Sungai Kelantan were also reported to have exceeded the normal levels in several places and the waters are slowing rising following intermittent heavy rain in the state.
As such, the Kelantan Drainage and Irrigation Department had issued a warning on the possibility of a second wave of floods and advised the residents, especially those in Rantau Panjang, to be ready for any eventuality.
Early this month, 3,000 residents in Kelantan, mostly from Rantau Panjang and Tumpat, were evacuated following floods which took two lives.
The current weather of intermittent heavy rain in Kelantan is forcast to continue until next Tuesday.
