Seek Knowledge Continuously, Tuanku Muhriz Tells Signals Regiment

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The communication strength of a military organisation depends not only on the equipment but also the ability of personnel to carry out their duties efficiently, Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir said.

Tuanku Muhriz, who is the Royal Signals Regiment Colonel-in-Chief, said members of the regiment should therefore equip themselves with knowledge so that they could perform their duties effectively.

"The signals regiment is now an advanced organisation in terms of communication assets. This will definitely require the expertise among the personnel handling them.

"Officers and personnel should also appreciate the effort by the armed forces and the government to acquire communication assets and use them optimally and effectively," he said.

Tuanku Muhriz was speaking at the 17th Anniversary Parade of the Royal Signals Regiment at the army camp in Sungai Besi, here Thursday.

He also urged all levels of the regiment's leadership to show good example to motivate their subordinates.

"Let us all maintain high discipline and be always on the alert as this will reflect on our professionalism as a military organisation," he said, adding that members of the regiment should take stock of past successes as well as weaknesses in order to further improve themselves.

Meanwhile the regiment's chairman Datuk Zulkiflee Mazlan said the regiment had spent RM500 million to acquire sophisticated communication equipment under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.

It includes 3,000 units of high-frequency communication devices such as digital field telephone sets from Portugal as well as data terminal, antenna and patrol radio.

"We hope that in the 10MP, we can add more equipment to strengthen the army's communication system," he said.
