Rain: Orange Alert In Northern States
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Meteorological Department today issued an orange-level weather alert for Perak, Kedah and Perlis, forecasting moderate to heavy rain from Wednesday until Thursday, which may cause flooding in low-lying areas.
In a statement, the department said the areas affected included Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Larut, Matang and Kerian in north Perak as well as Kedah and Perlis.
The department also issued a yellow-level alert for Kelantan and Terengganu, with moderate to heavy rain expected to persist until Tuesday which could also cause flooding in low-lying areas.
The department meanwhile issued a strong wind and rough sea warning, with northeasterly wind of 50-60kmph and wave height of up to 4.5 metres expected to occur over Condore until Sunday.
The condition is dangerous to all shipping activities, including fishing and ferry services, it said.
Strong winds and rough seas were also forecast in waters of Samui (Kelantan and Terengganu), Reef North, Layang-layang, Palawan and Kudat in the northern part of Sabah until Sunday, with the wind speed of between 40 and 50kmph and wave height of 3.5 metres.
The condition is dangerous to small craft and sea sports and recreation, it said.
The department also said that areas in the east coast of the peninsula, namely in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, were expected to experience high tide starting Wednesday until Friday.
