Floods Damage 800 Hectares Of Padi Fields In Perlis

KANGAR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- About 800 hectares of padi fields at several locations in Perlis are submerged by flood waters since a week ago, resulting in about 1,200 farmers to suffer losses of about RM1 million.

State Agriculture and Agrobased Industry Committee Chairman Sabry Ahmad said the padi fields affected by the floods included about 500 hectares in areas under the jurisdiction of the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada).

The state government would request for allocation from the federal government to help the farmers involved, he told reporters after surveying the extent of the damage to the padi crop at Sungai Bakong and Padang Siding here on Monday.
