Government To Seek Views From Private Sector On 10th Malaysia Plan

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The special briefing on the 10th Malaysia Plan, which is now being formulated by the government, will seek views and suggestions from representatives of the private sector.

These will include strategies to secure economic growth and to push Malaysia's goal to become a high income economy by 2020, the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister's Department said in a statement today.

The briefing wil be held from 9am to 12.15pm on Nov 10, 2009, at the Westin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

More than 130 captains of industries and top representatives of both local and foreign chambers of commerce, and trade associations have been invited to attend the briefing, the EPU said.

It said that the briefing was organised as part of the government's effort to engage the private sector at the initial phase of its preparation of the 10th Malaysia Plan.

According to EPU, the plan, which covers the period from 2011 to 2015 will continue to give emphasis on the role of the private sector as the main engine of growth as in the previous plan.

The briefing will begin with an opening remark by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, followed by a presentation on the macroeconomic prospects and strategic directions of the plan as well as a briefing on privatisation and the private funding initiative.
