Federal Departments In Sarawak Urged To Instil Innovativeness And Creativity
KUCHING, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Federal government departments and agencies in Sarawak should strive for high performance by being innovative and creative in carrying out their daily tasks, said Sarawak Federal Secretary Md Yahaya Basimin.
He said the National Key Result Area (NKRA) and Key Performance Index (KPI) were methods introduced by the government towards creating a culture of high achievement as each task done would be measured and evaluated objectively, besides finding the best method of carrying it out.
"To realise these objectives, public servants must have a world-class mentality, like being proactive, innovative, creative, and willing to change and add value," he said at the monthly assembly of the Sarawak federal departments and agencies, here, Wednesday.
Md Yahaya said public servants had a big role to play in placing Malaysia on a good world ranking, especially in the innovation field.
He said the Global Innovation Index 2009-2010 statistics showed that Malaysia was placed 25th out of 133 countries, placed 24th in new technology innovation compared with 22nd in 2008-2009, and 25th in contemporary innovation compared with 21st (2008-2009).
According to the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2009, Malayia's position dropped to 23rd this year from 19th previously.
"Consequently, in the 2009 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had stressed innovation on the nation's main agenda," said Md Yahaya.
He said heads of departments must find the best methodology in doing things, so that together with their subordinates they could contribute to their departments achieving a high performance level.
