Dewan Rakyat Records Sympathies, Condolences To Families Of Pupils In Bridge Tragedy
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday extended its sympathies and condolences to the families of pupils involved in the collapse of a suspension bridge over the Kampar River in Perak Monday night.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who presided over today's sitting, also recorded the house's condolences to the family of Indonesian domestic maid Mantik Hani, 36, who died yesterday after alleged physical abuse by her employer in Taman Sentosa, Klang.
Earlier, Ahmad Kasim (PKR-Kuala Kedah) had proposed that the house offer a recital of the "Al-Fatihah" verse and observe a moment's silence with regard to the bridge tragedy.
One pupil, Dina Deve a/p Nathan, drowned and two others are missing after the bridge collapsed while pupils who were to start a unity camp today were crossing it at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang near Ipoh.
They were among the 298 pupils from 60 primary schools in Kampar, Tronoh and Batu Gajah who were to participate in the 1Malaysia Camp co-curriculum activity organised by the Kinta Selatan District Education Department.
