Reconciliation Of Tee Keat, Soi Lek Good For BN, Says Liow

PEKAN, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The reconciliation of MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and former deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek gives hope that the Chinese community will switch their support back to the Barisan Nasional (BN), MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Saturday.

He said the greater unity plan adopted by the party after the reconciliation of the two leaders was proof of their realisation to strengthen the party.

"The reconciliation proves that MCA leaders give priority to efforts to strengthen the party, especially in facing the next general election," he told reporters after attending the investiture in conjunction with the 79th birthday of the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, at the Istana Abu Bakar, here.

Liow was asked to comment on the willingness of the two leaders to reconcile and subscribe to a greater unity plan which has the blessings and support of Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In Petaling Jaya, Dr Chua said he had yet to receive any letter from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) pertaining to his position in the party following the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of Oct 10 which reinstated him as a member but not as the deputy president of the party.

"No, I have not received any report yet from the ROS so far. I am awaiting their decision," he told reporters.
