Photo Exhibition On NAM Women

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Institute for the Empowerment of Women (Niew) will organise a woman-themed exhibition on photographs at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre here, beginning Friday.

The three-day exhibition, entitled 'NAM Women: A Thousand Faces' is aimed at educating the public on several issues involving women, through photographs and visual displays.

Niew director Datuk Rafiah Salim noted that issues concerning women had been sidelined for quite sometime and that it was about time to highlight such issues.

"The exhibition would also showcase photographs on violence against women, as well as women's participation in politics, media, economy, health and crisis management sectors," she told Bernama today.

Malaysia, Pakistan, Yemen and United Arab Emirates are among NAM member countries participating in the exhibition, together with SME Corporation Malaysia, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, National Population and Family Development Board, NAM News Network and Yayasan Salam.

Rafiah said the exhibition was the first step to introduce Niew and its roles to the public, since its establishment in 2006.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil is expected to open the exhibition on Thursday.
