Plan To Build Four-Lane Roads In Kelantan

PASIR PUTEH, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Construction of four-lane roads linking the various towns in Kelantan is being planned to overcome traffic congestion, especially during the festive season like Aidilfitri and Aidiladha.

Kelantan Umno liaison chief Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said funds for the project, especially the road linking Pasir Puteh-Kota Baharu, Machang-Tanah Merah/Kota Baharu, would be requested from the federal government.

The proposed construction of the roads would also link Kelantan to the neighbouring states of Terengganu, Perak and Pahang, he told reporters at a Hari Raya gathering here on Saturday.

Roads in Kelantan are heavily congested, especially during the Aidilfitri and Aidiladha celebrations, as thousands of Kelantan-born working outside the state return home to celebrate the occasion.

Mustapa, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, said the roads in Kelantan were congested because most of them only had two lanes and could not accommodate the increase in population as well as motorists.
