Rare 'eagle Flower' Attracts Flower Enthusiasts
KUCHING, Aug 22 (Bernama) - Flower lovers were in a big rush to the Colours of Nature 2009 exhibition at the Borneo Highlands Resort (BHR) near here Saturday to see the rare "Eagle Flower", which blooms only once a year.
The creeper plant blooms only in the month of August and that is why it is the main attraction at the event, which kicks off today and ends on Aug 31.
Pink in colour and similar to the Japanese Sakura (cherry blossom), it was dubbed by the founder of BHR, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, as "BHR Sakura Flower", according to BHR Sales Manager and organizing chairman, Charles Chow.
The annual Colours of Nature 2009 showcase the various colours of flora and fauna of Sarawak's highlands.
BHR sits at 1,000 metres above sea level atop a jungle-clad plateau on the Sarawak-Kalimantan border and its spring-like temperatures of 18 to 28 degrees Celsius offers a spectacle for nature lovers and flower enthusiasts.
