Son Of Senior Police Officer Dies In Fire
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- A son of Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Koh Hong Sun died in a fire at the senior police officer's condominium in Mont Kiara here Tuesday.
The burnt body of Koh Keat Lee, 22, was found on the balcony of the condominium on the 32nd floor of the 40-storey Mont Kiara Bayu Condominium in Jalan Kiara 2, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar at the scene.
The cause of the fire, which is believed to have occurred at 9.30am, has yet to be ascertained. Firemen had arrived in six fire trucks from the Sentul, Hang Tuah and Segambut fire and rescue stations to put out the fire.
Hong Sun was at work during the incident, said Ismail, adding that Keat Lee's body had been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
A woman who lives in a block opposite and wished to remain anonymous said she saw a man shouting for help from the balcony of the 32nd-floor condominium.
"I heard him shout for help after he was apparently trapped by a fire at the condominium," she said.
She said she came down from her unit to alert the security guards of the incident.
A Thai woman who works as a maid at a condominium on the 29th floor said she heard a loud explosion from above her unit.
The maid, who had started work there only 10 days ago, came down from her unit to save herself after seeing fire and smoke.
The fire and rescue department dismissed any foul play in the incident though the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue senior operations chief Zakaria Muhd, when contacted, said it required time to find out the cause.
Meanwhile, a check by Bernama revealed that Keat Lee's body had been claimed by his next-of-kin from the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
