Strong Quake In New Ireland Region
KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit the New Ireland Region Tuesday night.
The earthquake was centred at 5.3 degrees south and 153.6 degrees east, which is 841km northwest of Honiara, Solomon Islands and 4,079km southeast of Kunak, Sabah, the Meterological Department said in a statement.
It said the quake did not pose any tsunami threat.
