Unitar Develops Human Capital Through Boutique University Concept
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Greater human capital development through a boutique university concept will be the main focus of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (Unitar) in its plans for revamp.
Unitar President and Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Zabid Abd Rashid told a news conference Thursday that the university had observed that there was a great need to train more leaders and entrepreneurs in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's goal of achieving Vision 2020.
"Our goal is to assist the nation in achieving its human capital growth by training proficient leaders and entrepreneurs where industry leaders would snatch them immediately upon or even before graduation.
"Our idea of entrepreneurs does not lie merely with creating more businesses but also to create entrepreneurs in organisations, professionals who are willing to take risk to further develop their respective organisations to greater heights," he said.
As part of the programme, the university would also be developing a CEO training programme next year for selected graduates from international ivy league universities under the helm of Assoc Prof Dr Ibrahim Zahari.
"This programme is still in the planning stage, nothing much can be said of it yet. But it will consist of a very small and selected group of students where our focus is to train these fresh graduates on assuming the mantle of a CEO by focusing more on their leadership aspects," Dr Ibrahim said.
Unitar would be holding its Eighth Convocation on Nov 22 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre where it would also appoint a new second Pro Chancellor, Datuk Seri Andrew Sheng Len Tao, and present an honorary Doctorate in Education to Prof Gavin Brown AO.
This year's convocation would also mark another first for Unitar, with 12 students graduating with doctorates, the first time in the university's history that so many students are getting the doctorate.
