Danga City Mall To Open On Aug 31

JOHOR BAHARU, July 18 (Bernama) -- The once abandoned project but now renamed as Danga City Mall will reopen for business on August 31st this year.

Danga City Mall Sdn Bhd (DCMSB)'s managing director, Gary Lee Seaton, said the company spent RM100 million on the mall including RM50 million to give it a complete makeover and reposition it as a premier retail complex.

The completely refurbished mall, which is one of the most recognisable retail properties here because of its strategic location, will have Metrojaya as its anchor tenant, Seaton told reporters here Friday.

He said the road system was also upgraded to give the mall greater accessibility and visibility while parking facilities were improved to give visitors a vibrant new shopping experience.

He said nearly 80 per cent of its 500 retail units were expected to be occupied and operational by the time it reopens its doors again after being in limbo for almost 10 years.

The building which was originally known as the Best World Plaza was badly hit by the Asian financial crisis and was forced to close down two years after its opening in 1996.

"Essentially, we want to revitalise and reposition Danga City Mall as a fun place for shopping, entertainment and leisure for both the young and old," said Seaton, pointing out that Metrojaya's 120,000 sq ft store would be the biggest in Johor.

Seaton said Danga City Mall would also have a 28,000 sq ft supermarket on the lower ground floor and a 70,000 sq ft one-stop Family Entertainment Centre featuring among others, a bowling alley, kids fun and play activity zone, and games station.
