SPM Students With ILI Symptons Advised To Seek Immediate Treatment
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Parents and guardians of students taking the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, which will begin on Nov 19, are advised to send the children for immediate treatment if they have symptoms of influenza-like illness.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said parents should also inform the school authorities on their children's condition so that necessary action could be taken, including isolating them from other students during examination.
"Students with ILI are required to wear face masks to avoid spreading the virus to others," he said in a statement here Tuesday.
In a related development, Dr Mohd Ismail said 152 new patients with ILI symptoms were admitted to hospitals for treatment while 146 patients were discharged today.
He said a total of 666 people with ILI symptoms were still hospitalised for treatment nationwide, including 27 Influenza A (H1N1) cases confirmed through laboratory tests.
"Of the 27 Influenza A (H1N1) patients receiving treatment, eight or 30 per cent are in the Intensive care Unit," he added.
He said the number of death due to the Influenza A (H1N1) virus remained at 77 people.
