Employers/Schools Required To Report ILI Cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Employers and school administrators are required to report to the nearest district health office any case of influenza-like illness (ILI) and unusually high absenteeism at their workplaces or schools.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said this was important to contain the spread of Influenza A(H1N1) which was still active in the community although of H1N1 cases had dropped.

No H1N1 death was reported today, maintaining the death toll at 77.

However, 216 new patients with ILI symptoms were warded, bringing the total still warded nationwide to 706, Dr Ismail said in a statement here.

Sixty of 9 per cent of the total were confirmed H1N1 cases and eight of them were in the intensive care units, all in the high risk group comprising three children below five years old, one obese, three with chronic disease and one child below five with chronic disease.

On the Penilaian Menengan Rendah (PMR), examination, Dr Ismail advised parents or guardians with children sitting for the examination to monitor their children's health.

"If their children show ILI symptons get immediate treatment and inform the school so that appropriate action can be take.

"Students sitting for the examination are advised to practise a healthy lifestyle including washing their hands with soap and water," he added.
