Study On Tongod Agropolital Project Completed
KOTA KINABALU, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) has appointed the Institute for Development Studies Sabah (IDS) to carry out a study on the setting up of an agropolitan project in Tongod.
Assistant Rural Development Minister Datuk Sairin Karno said the Tongod agropolitan project is one of five similar projects proposed by the ministry under the Sabah Development Corridor initiative.
"The IDS has already submitted the inception report to UPEN last month.
"Apart from the main study, several studies such as the environmental impact assessment, topography and soil investigations have also been carried out," he said in reply to Masiung Banah (BN-Kuamut) during question time at the state legislative assembly on Thursday.
He said that although the total area proposed for the Tongod agropolitan project was about 6,000 hectares, the actual area would depend on other factors such as the availability of obstruction-free area and the needs of local people.
"The Public Works Department is also preparing the plan for the construction of roads into the project area namely the Jalan Lalampas and Jalan Ansung," he said.
