Selangor Assembly Appoints Two Senators

SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Selangor State Assembly today approved a motion appointing Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali and Petaling Jaya City Council member S.Ramakrishnan as senators.

They will replace two senators from the state whose term of office expires on Dec 6. They are Datuk Ikhwan Salim Sujak and Datuk Yip Kum Fook.

Syed Hussin, who holds a doctorate from the London School of Economics and Political Science, has been in politics for 50 years and is active in non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Ramakrishnan, who has been a member of the DAP for nine years, is a lecturer at the Metropolitan College and has presented papers at international seminars in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Perth, Australia.
