Sultan Of Kedah Calls On People To Settle Their Taxes
ALOR SETAR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, on Tuesday called on the people in the state to discharge their responsibility as taxpayers because the revenue would be used by the government to develop the state.
"It is now time for the government to enforce the law on those who are irresponsible and deliberately did not pay their taxes.
"I suggest that the departments involved in collecting state revenue increase the number of their staff and equipment, and improve the system of management so that they can carry out their task effectively and raise the state revenue," the Ruler said at the opening of the 2010 Budget Meeting of the State Legislative Assembly, here on Tuesday.
He said although Kedah had limited natural resources, the government could collect optimum revenue through diligent management.
The government would continue to provide various opportunities for the people to increase their income, he said.
Meanwhile, the Sultan said in view of the fact that raw water resources had the potentials of generating income, a department that would be responsible for the management of water resources in terms of regulation, sale of raw water and so on would be set up.
