Government Told To Split Compassionate Fund For Kelantan 50:50
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Ind-Pasir Mas) has suggested that the federal government split its compassionate fund for Kelantan on a 50:50 basis.
He said this could resolve complaints that distribution of the fund through the federal development department (JPP) was unfair.
"The JPP can use its allocation for poverty alleviations while the state government for infrastructure development," he said when debating the Supply Bill 2010 in the Dewan Rakyat Monday.
Recently the federal government announced the setting up of the fund and that it would be channelled through the JPP in the Opposition-ruled state.
On religious matters, he suggested that the government appoint a grand mufti to coordinate matters on Islam.
He said the grand mufti could give his views and suggestions to the Malay rulers, who were the heads of Islam in their respective states.
The Dewan sits again tomorrow.
