Situation In Flood-hit Kedah Improves

ALOR SETAR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The situation in flood-hit Kedah improved on Monday evening, with 172 evacuees allowed to return to their homes.

A spokesman of the flood operations room told Bernama 1,621 people still remained at relief centres.

The Kota Setar district had the most number of evacuees, with 723, followed by Kubang Pasu (474), Bandar Baharu (280), Pokok Sena (124) and Baling (20).

"All the evacuees are accommodated at 17 relief centres," he said.

Meanwhile, the level of two rivers -- Sungai Kepala Batas and Sungai Pantai Johor -- in Kota Setar have exceeded the danger level, he said.
