Number Of Flood Victims In Kedah Rises

ALOR SETAR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims evacuated in Kedah continued to increase to 1,338 people, compared to only 1,062 on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson from the state flood operations room said the Pokok Sena district had been hit by a second wave of floods causing 376 victims from 84 families to be evacuated.

"The four villages in Pokok Sena affected are Kampung Bukit, Kampung Baru, Kampung Derang and Kampung Bukit Hijau. The victims are now moved to the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Hijau," he said.

Meanwhile, Kubang Pasu recorded the highest number with 502 victims (112 families), followed by Kota Setar with 431 (117 families), and Padang Terap with 29 victims (7 families).

"So far 14 relief centres have been opened to accommodate the victims," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Meanwhile, the water levels in Kota Setar still exceeded the danger level with Sungai Kepala Batas at 4.08 metres (danger level 3.85 metres) and Sungai Pantai Johor 2.35 metres (danger level 2.00 metres).
