Perak PAC To Visit Weak Government Departments
IPOH, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Perak Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will visit government departments found to be weak, said its chairman Datuk Seri Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar.
He said the visits were not aimed at frightening the officers concerned but at reviewing, checking and advising on the practices to prevent the weakneses from continuing.
"The PAC will hold meetings at the departments involved...we want them to improve their performance so as to fulfil the needs and aspirations of the people," he said after chairing the first meeting of the recently appointed committee.
Raja Ahmad, who is also Kubu Gajah assemblyman, said the move was no publicity stunt nor was it aimed at showing that the new committee was better than the previous one, but to enhance the functions of the PAC in line with the people's wishes.
He said based on the State Audit Department's appraisal, there were departments which only obtained one star in rating and this was shocking as the departments had failed to meet the performance level set.
"So, we will go down to these one-star departments to discuss and meet the department heads," he added.
In another development, Raja Ahmad said the PAC might also investigate the collapsed suspension bridge incident at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang early this month after receiving the report from the special committee set up by the state government to probe the incident.
"If the PAC is required to carry out another investigation into the case, we will do it," he said.
In the tragedy, which the Education Ministry is also investigating, three pupils drowned in the river when they and several others on a camping trip were crossing the bridge and it collapsed.
