Educational Planning For 10MP Focuses On Four Sub-NKRA

PETALING JAYA, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Educational planning for next year and in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) will focus on the implementation of four educational sub-National Key Result Areas (NKRA), said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the four educational sub-NKRA were widening and strengthening pre-school education, raising the literacy and numeracy rate, creating high performance schools and giving recognition to outstanding principals and headmasters.

"I think it's most appropriate if the ministry invests the allocation it receives in the four sub-NKRA because this will give a big impact on educational achievement," he said when opening the seminar on Educational Development in the 10MP, here Tuesday.

He said the investment must achieve the objective of ensuring that each student received optimum education depending on their capacity.

"It will also be able to give a meaningful contribution to the community and country based on the schooling and education that the students received," he said.

He said the aspect of human capital development would be made the main thrust in planning for educational development throughout the 10MP period encompassing all efforts at raising the level of knowledge and skills, moulding individuals with intellect in the fields of science and technology, and nurturing positive attitude, values and ethics.

Muhyiddin said planning for educational development must be made carefully to avoid wastage of public fund.

"Previously, there were schools where the student population was much smaller than the schools' actual capacity. There were also day schools which had pure science laboratories without having pure science classes, resulting in the existing facilities not being ustilised," he said.
