Police Rescue Two More Abducted Sri Lankans, Arrest 10 Kidnappers
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The police rescued two more abducted Sri Lankans from a house in Setapak here with the help of the French police and Interpol.
The men aged 57 and 63 were freed last Thursday following the arrest of six suspects after the police rescued a kidnapped 16-year-old Sri Lankan boy nearby a day earlier, said Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin.
He said besides the six suspects, including Sri Lankans, aged between 20 and 30, Interpol and the French police had picked up four more suspects aged between 20 and 36 in France.
The victims were staved and beaten up by the kidnappers, who are believed to be members a syndicate, he told reporters here Monday.
He said the police were tracking down members of a syndicate in the country, Sri Lanka or other countries.
"We believe they were after ransom money and not involved in human trafficking. They targeted Sri Lankans, who had just arrived in the country, and demanded ransom money from family members to be deposited in bank accounts overseas especially in France," he said.
He said the two Sri Lankan senior citizens, who entered the country legally before they were abducted several days ago, were not from rich families.
"In the case of the teenager, who was kidnapped on Oct 26, the suspects demanded RM25,000 which was eventually paid by the family.
