Najib Arrives In Hua Hin For 15th Asean Summit

HUA HIN, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here Friday to attend the 15th Asean Summit and the regional grouping's meetings with six dialogue partners.

Najib was received at the Hua Hin Airport by Thailand's Information and Communication Technology Minister Ranongruk Suwanchawee and Malaysia's Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Husni Zai Yaakob.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, had hours earlier delivered the 2010 Budget Report in Parliament.

Upon arriving at Sheraton Hotel, Najib signed the well-wishes book for King Bhumibol Adulyadej who has been admitted at the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok since a month ago.

Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman had represented Najib at the opening ceremony of the Asean Summit and the launching of the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (Aichr) Friday morning to promote and protect human rights in the region.



During his three-day stay here, Najib is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Asean member states and the dialogue partners.

The 10 Asean Leaders will have a retreat Saturday before the Asean Plus 1 summits with China, Japan, South Korea and India, as well as the 12th Asean Plus Three Summit.

The Fourth East Asia Summit involving Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea will be held on Sunday, followed by the Sixth Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) to be chaired by Najib.
