DK Composites Wins International Innovation Award
SINGAPORE, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- DK Composites of Malaysia on Wednesday won an international innovation award at the 2009 JEC Asia Show, the leading composites show in Asia here.
The Melaka-based company, also known as Dian Kreatif Composites and established in 1997, won the JEC Innovation Award in the transportation/marine category.
The company recently built a new-generation of ultra-fast interceptor boats featuring special hulls made entirely of advanced carbon and glass fibre composites.
In 2007, a Dutch company, Damen, having heard of DK Composites' reputation for fabricating high-quality composites hulls, had commissioned it to build the first interceptor boat.
DK Composites completed the job in the specified time and the boat passed a stringent set of tests conducted in Port Dickson as well as harsh testing in the rough North Sea in Europe with flying colours.
Last year, Damen awarded a contract to DK Composites for the building of four boats which have the capability of reaching an operating speed of 60 knots, and are highly manoeuvrable.
DK Composites' executive chairman Datuk Khalilur Rahman Ebrahim, who received the award from the organiser, said the company had so far produced over 1,500 boats, ranging from pleasure boats to offshore power boats and racing yachts.
He told Bernama that the company, whose clients were mainly foreigners, recorded a turnover of between RM30 million and RM40 million a year.
