Former Deputy IGP In A Coma

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Former deputy inspector-general of police Tan Sri Mohd Sedek Ali is still in a coma and is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (KLH) after being involved in a highway accident Tuesday.

Senior consultant specialist and head of the Neurosurgery Department, Dr Mohammed Saffari Mohammed Haspani, said since he was admitted into the KLH ICU Mohd Sedek's condition had shown no change.

"Mohd Sedek is still unconscious and is being monitored as he has not passed the critical level.

"The patient's condition is still critical..in a coma but stable. His condition is still in an early stage that needs time for consciousness...maybe a week or more," Dr Mohammed Saffari told reporters when met at his office at KLH here.

Mohd Sedek was seriously injured in the head when the car he was driving skidded and crashed into a road divider before hitting another car at KM17 of the Grand Saga Highway near a petrol station.

He was admitted to the Kajang Hospital ICU and underwent a head operation before being referred to KLH for further treatment.

Mohd Sedek was appointed deputy inspector-general on Jan 13, 2004 and retired about a year later.
