Yayasan Patriotik Bangsa Honours Three Statesmen

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- The Yayasan Patriotik Bangsa Wednesday for the first time recognised three statesmen, namely, fourth former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, fifth former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and the former Gerakan president Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik.

The awards were given to honour their services and sacrifices to develop the nation and make it renowned both at home and internationally.

Dr Lim, who was also former Energy, Water and Communications Minister, was given the Unity Award which was received by his representative Gerakan treasurer Datuk Ng Chiang Chin.

However two awards, namely the Patriotic Special Award for Dr Mahathir and the Renewal Award for Abdullah will be presented at another time as they could not attend.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim in her speech said the duties of a national leader were heavy as there was pressures and challenges to develop the nation and its people.

Yayasan Patriotik Bangsa is a non-governmental organisation set up to honour Malaysians who have contibuted much to the nation and its people.
