UMS V-C, MPs Appointed Ambassadors of Peace

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Kamaruzaman Ampon is among the Ambassadors for Peace appointed by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) here, Saturday.

UPF is a global alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace, and the Ambassadors for Peace initiative, launched in 2001, has become the world's largest and most diverse network of peace leaders.

Other individuals appointed are Sepanggar Member of Parliament Datuk Eric Enchin Majimbun, Tawau MP Datuk Dr Chua Soon Bui, Kota Kinabalu MP Dr Hiew King Cheu, Silam MP Salleh Kalbi and Sabah MCA vice chairperson Datuk Agnes Shim Tshin Nyuk.

The appointments were announced by UPF Malaysia chairman Dr Yoo Chong Young during the federation's seminar entitled A New Vision of Leadership, here.

In his opening remarks, Yoo said Malaysia which is multicultural and multiracial, had the potential to become the 'centre of peace' for Asia.

He said that in the spirit of 'Malaysia Boleh' (Malaysia Can), the country could spearhead peace initiatives in the region.
