Najib To Attend APEC Summit In Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 17th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leader's Meeting (AELM) in Singapore from Nov 14 to 15.

The annual summit, themed "Sustaining Growth, Connecting the Region", to be attended by Heads of State and Government from 21-member economies, will be preceded by the 21st APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) on Nov 11 and 12 and APEC Concluding Senior Officials Meeting on Nov 8 and 9.

The Foreign Ministry said Najib, who is also Finance Minister, will speak on wide-ranging issues, covering economic crisis, multilateral trading system, regional economic integration, economic and technical cooperation, human security and strengthening APEC.

The Prime Minister has also been invited to participate in the APEC CEO Summit and will speak on the subject "Is the Worst of the Global Crisis Over?" on Nov 13.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman will also attend the session, it said in a statement.



On Nov 14, Najib will participate in the APEC Business Advisory Council dialogue with top corporate figures who represent the APEC business fraternity, it said.

APEC is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim countries that plays a vital role in promoting trade and investment network in the Asia-Pacific region.

Decisions made at the 17th AELM will be documented in the Joint Leaders Declaration while the outcome of the 21st AMM will be stated in the Joint Ministerial Statement, the statement added.
