Samsung, Microsoft To Collaborate On Marketing Power-efficient Products
SEOUL, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Microsoft Corp., the world's largest computer software company, and Samsung Electronics Co., the world's top memory chip maker, will embark on a joint marketing campaign to promote the combined use of their products, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Monday.
Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft, had a meeting with Lee Yoon-woo, vice chairman of Samsung here, to discuss ways to promote environmentally friendly products from their firms.
The top executives agreed to encourage personal computer users to simultaneously use Microsoft's newly released Windows 7 operating system and Samsung's 40-nanometer DDR3 dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips to reduce power consumption and increase efficiency, Samsung said in a statement.
"The 'Green IT' collaboration effort between the world's number one memory company and the world's number one software company is expected to contribute to the revival of IT markets that have been depressed by the economic downturn," it said.
Samsung also announced that it will be adopting Microsoft's new operating system at its offices worldwide in 2010.
