WASB Offers Sacrificial Cows At RM1,650 Per Head

ALOR SETAR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Widad Agrofarm Sdn Bhd (WASB), a company involved in the supply and rearing of feedlot cattle, is offering discounts of between 20 to 25 per cent per cow for Muslims wanting to perform the sacrifice in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha next month.

The company is offering a low ex-farm price of from RM1,650 per head depending on the category you choose yourself, at its farm in Sungai Laka,Changlun, about 55 km from here starting Monday.

WASB managing director Datuk Muhammad Ikmal Opat Abdullah said the company was offering about 1,500 head of cattle brought in from Thailand for the purpose.

According to him, the cattle are first quarantined at a collection centre in Thailand for ten days and then for another ten, at its Sungai Laka farm, before being sold to buyers.

"WASB guarantees the quality and cleanliness of the cattle sold as they are also examined earlier by the Department of Veterinary Services, Kedah (JPV)," he told reporters when met at a Hari Raya open house at the company's headquarters here today.

Also present was the new Kedah JPV director Dr Mohd Termizi Ghazali.

The cost of a cow which meets the requirements for sacrifice is estimated at RM2,100 per head while that sold by WASB is RM1,650.

Muhammad Ikmal said orders can be made by calling a toll free number,1800-88-6116, on a first come, first served basis.

"The low price is to enable more Muslims to fullfill their religious obligation. We encourage the public, government agencies and the private sector who require cattle for the purpose of sacrifice, to visit the WASB farm to see the cows for themselves before making any order," he added.

He said that a company in Perak had to date made the biggest order of 500 cows apart from an individual.

He also stated that among the reasons for WASB to offer the price discount is to introduce the company which aspires to spearhead the supply of low priced cows and quality meat in the market.

Muhammad Ikmal said that although WASB was just two years old, it had the vision of becoming a serious player in the industry.

"WASB always ensures that that the cattle and meat supplied to the market adheres strictly to the JPV guidelines," he added.

He also indicated that the company will continue to sell beef at low price of RM17 per kilo compared to the market price of about RM18.

"We plan to make this a permanent price for customers having a discount card where the registration for membership is free. More than 200 people have signed up for the discount card," he said.
