Kembara Bernama-tourism Malaysia To Be Expanded To Sabah, Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 (Bernama) -- The Kembara Bernama-Tourism Malaysia treasure hunt will be expanded to Sabah and Sarawak next year to promote multi-racial culture in line with the 1Malaysia concept.

Information Communication and Culture Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Kamaruddin Siaraf said the move was also to promote the Bernama brand in the two states.

"We should be able to do it in the spirit of 1Malaysia. What we are doing now is to promote the common culture of the Malaysian people and to encourage participations from the multiracial society," he said when flagging-off 250 participants in 60 cars for the 2009 Kembara Bernama-Tourism Malaysia at Wisma Bernama here on Saturday.

The event is organised by Kelab Kakitangan Bernama and Tourism Malaysia, and the theme for this year is "Jejaki Khazanah Johor" (Uncover Johor's Treasure).

Also present were Bernama General Manager Hasnul Hassan and Editor-in-Chief Datuk Yong Soo Heong.

Yong said the event would be held first in Sarawak next year.

"We have been organising this event for the past 21 years and the focus has always been on Peninsular Malaysia. Going to Sabah and Sarawak is a good move, we'll definitely embark on it," he said.

Meanwhile, Hasnul said the Kembara Bernama-Tourism Malaysia could be regarded as the national news agency's corporate social responsibility initiative.

He added that participants would normally be required to hunt for treasures which would then be donated to the less fortunate in welfare homes in the state where the event was held.
