| MACC Denies Acting Slowly Over Power Abuse In Sarawak |

KUCHING, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has still not compeleted investigation into allegations of abuse of power in the distribution of the Special Development Fund due to difficlty in getting a statement from Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament, Chong Chieng Jen.
"Investigation was started quickly but the MACC is facing difficulty in the investigation as the MP will only give his statement to the Sarawak MACC on Nov 20, 2009," the MACC said in a statement here Wednesday.
"The reason given by him is that he cannot attend to give a statement to the commission soon as he is in Kuala Lumpur and would be busy in the Sarawak state assembly from Nov 9-18," the statement said.
Commenting on a news report by an English paper based in Sarawak which carried a statement by Chong, who is also state DAP secretary, where he alleged that the MACC was late in acting, the MACC said the statement made by the MP was baseless and the investigation can be wrapped up in the time set if Chong gave full cooperation to the commission.
The MACC said a complaint was received on Oct 1, 2009, and Chong had been told that investigation into allegations of abuse of power by Special Development Officer (SDO) Sarawak in the distribution of the fund last year would be tried to be completed in one month.
Chong was quoted as saying that till now no feedback had been received from the MACC although a complaint had been made a month back by Sim Poh Kheng, 31, a voter registered in Bandar Kuching and who is a DAP member.
Sim had handed the complaint to Sarawak MACC deputy director, Norazlan Mohd Razali, witnessed by other MACC offficers, Chong, and Sarawak DAP chairman, Wong Ho Leng.
The complaint was made after Chong was informed by Parliament the RM1.4 million allocation for the Bandar Kuching parliamentary constintuency was given to organisations outside his constituency, that is, Mukah, Limbang and Lawas, and which he said was surprising.
