Government Urged To Blacklist Abandoned Projects Contractors

NABAWAN, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Natural Resources and Environment Minister Tan Sri Joseph Kurup on Tuesday urged the government to investigate and blacklist contractors who fail to complete government contracts and cause them to be abandoned.

Kurup said this caused inconvenience to the people and burdened the government besides forcing the government to revive the projects through re-tendering and therefore adding to costs.

Kurup said this when visiting a development project site in the Pagalungan sub-district here together with assistant sub-district officer, Sukiang Ensing, and Pensiangan parliament chief communication officer, Vincent Lee.

"When this happens the public's money is used for abandoned projects," said Kurup when visiting a government quarters building project that should have been completed in 2008.

The project for the assistant district officer and sub-district staff had cost RM500,000, was now abandoned and was only 50 per cent built.

"The people must now pay more towards the cost, this should not happen and the contractor involved must complete the project on time and within the allocated costs," said Kurup.
