| Asean Officials Meet For Conference Of AMRI |

VIENTIANE, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Asean officials began a two-day meeting here Tuesday to discuss existing media-related programmes and activities and propose new ones to increase awareness on Asean, in efforts to build the Asean Community by 2015.
All 10 member countries are represented at the two-day Senior Officials Meeting of the 10th Conference of Asean Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) in this Laos capital city.
Malaysia is represented by a five-member delegation headed by Datuk Azmi Ali, deputy secretary-general of the Information Communication and Culture Ministry.
Other members include the director-general of the Broadcasting Department Datuk Ibrahim Yahaya, Bernama deputy editor-in-chief Zulkefli Salleh and director of Content and Industry Development of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Roslan Mohamad.
According to Azmi, Malaysia was expected to propose to the meeting a new mechanism to revitalise the dissemination of news and information among Asean member countries with a view to help realise the Asean Community.
Malaysia will offer to take a leading role to make the new vehicle a success.
The ministerial-level meeting is scheduled to start on Thursday.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim is expected to attend.
Malaysia will host the next AMRI in 2011.
