| MP Urges Deputy Minister To Drop Rhetoric |

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- A member of parliament (MP) has urged a deputy minister to do away with rhetoric but to reveal action taken to address crimes involving children like rape, abuse and abduction.
"We want to know what action had been taken. The people want a positive answer," Datuk Dr Makin @ Makcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan) told Dewan Rakyat Tuesday.
Dr Mojigoh was commenting Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Chew Mei Fun's reply to a question by Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah).
Fong had asked the government on the delay in hearing court cases involving children and what measures had been taken to address the issue.
Chew said the ministry had held discussions with the Chief Justice and cooperated with the Attorney-General Department and PDRM to overcome the delay.
"The discusssions revealed that the delay involved many parties, not only the courts," the deputy minister said.
The government was also formulating a National Children Protection Policy and National Children Action Plan aimed at improving the welfare of children.
"With the action plan, we will implement programmes with the cooperation of the Education Ministry, PDRM and other parties. We are also in the process of setting up a Child Helpline," Chew said.
