Yew Ghim Chnieh To Be Buried Tomorrow

NIBONG TEBAL, Nov 2(Bernama) -- The atmosphere at the family home of Yew Ghim Chnieh at Kampung Valdor, Sungai Bakap, was sombre and grim when the casket carrying his body arrived at about 3.15pm.

The 20-year-old was among the three Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UTAR) students who drowned at the Batu Berangkai Waterfalls in Kampar, Perak , yesterday.

He will be buried at the Chinese cemetery at Berapit, Bukit Mertajam tomorrow.

Yew's grandmother, Ng Tze Xian, 72, said she last met Yew, the eldest of three siblings, a month ago and had not expected that to be their last meeting.

"He is the family hope after his father died of cancer five years ago," said Ng, who was still in a shock.

She said Yew had always wanted to pursue his studies overseas, but had to abandon the dream as he had to take over the role of the family head when his father died.

The two others who drowned were James Wan Kai Khor, 20 , also from Penang, and Yew Shy Gin, 21, from Sungai Petani, Kedah.
