Prison Department Strives To Become World-Class Organisation

KAJANG, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The Prison Department has outlined a 2009-2020 master plan to turn it into a world-class correctional institution by 2020.

Its director-general, Datuk Zulkifli Omar said the master plan, which would be the foundation of its strategic direction, contained 10 thrusts.

The thrusts include making the department more professional in its rehabilitation programmes, upgrading human capital development and churning out more products by providing convicts with necessary skills, he told reporters after the launch of the Prison Department Day by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop here on Monday.

Zulkifli said the department would continue to improve the quality of its services and working culture.

In his speech, he said in line with the endeavour to become a world-class organisation, the department would look into the needs and interest of its employees, and provide them with a conducive working environment and a career development plan.

"The concept of complimenting each other can motivate the employees to work more diligently, thus improve the productivity," he said.

Zulkifli said the department needed the support of the society, non-government organisations, the private sector and convict families in providing effective rehabilitation programmes.
