Sabah Will Have Tamu Mara

SEMPORNA, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Mara will introduce Tamu Mara (Mara market) in Sabah to help bumiputeras market food, handicraft and agriculture produce.

Sabah Mara director Mohd Yunus Razali said for a start, Tamu Mara to be held with the cooperation of Semporna District Council, would be opened monthly.

He said if proven successful, Tamu Mara would be held weekly.

"We have put up canopies so that 50 poor people can use to market their products," he told reporters when launching the Mara Sale Carnival 2009 at Semporna Tamu Mara here on Saturday.

Mohd Yunus said Tamu Mara would be expanded to other districts in Sabah if it met encouraging response from Sabahans.

Semporna Mega Sale Carnival is part of a Mara nationwide programme involving some 2,000 entrepreneurs.

It had recorded sales valued at RM7 million since launched early this year.
