GUA MUSANG, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Three youth died and two of their friends were seriously injured when the Proton Saga they were in collided with a lorry that was turning right at Simpang Tiga Hospital Jalan Persiaran Raya here Friday.
The three men who died in the 7.40am incident were Md Nasarudin Ismail, 21, from Perumahan Kampung Tanah Puteh; Mohd Shamin Mohd Saufi, 21, from Kampung Sungai Serian; and Mohd Aliff Ghazali, 23, from Rancangan Pemulihan Tanah Kesedar Sungai Terah, Gua Musang.
Their two friends injured were Zarkasi Nuzam, 21 from Kuarters Klinik Kesihatan and Raja Hismadie Raja Ibrahim, 22, from here while the lorry driver who was injured was Yap Siau Wa, 57, from Negeri Sembilan.
Gua Musang acting police district chief DSP Aziz Hassan said in the incident both the lorry and the car were on a dual-lane road headed in the same direction.
"The lorry was in the left lane while the car was in the right fast lane. Near the junction, the lorry swerved to the right to get into the weekend market site without realising the Proton Saga was in the fast lane," he told reporters here today.
The car crashed into the lorry driver's door causing the victims to be trapped due to the high impact.
Aziz said the five men were headed to Md Nasaruddin's house in Kampung Tanah Puteh.
"Three of the victims were trapped in their seats and 10 firemen from the Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Service rushed to free the bodies of the three dead youths who died on the spot from head injuries," he said.
Aziz said the team of firemen took half-an-hour to extricate the bodies which were sent to the Gua Musang Hospital for autopsy.
