| No-Distribution Of PKFZ Documents Causes A Stir In Parliament |
|
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue caused a stir again in the Dewan Rakyat moments after session started today.
It was over documents on the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Position Review on the PKFZ which were supposed to be distributed to members of parliament (MPs), but did not.
The hype started when M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) wanted to know why the documents were not distributed to the MPs, as promised by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, despite PKFZ having sent 300 copies of the documents to the Parliament Secretary.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee said the documents were handed to the Parliament Secretary in his capacity as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
"The PAC is still having a meeting before submitting its report to the House. At the moment, the documents are for use by the PAC for its investigations and (the documents) will be given to the House only after it has completed its investigation," he added.
Unsatisfied with Kiandee's explanation, Kulasegaran continued to harp on the matter until Kiandee ordered him to stop.
Last June 14, Ong had said that 300 copies of the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Position Review on the PKFZ would be sent to Parliament the following day for distribution to the MPs.
However, he had said that it would be up to Parliament when the copies would be distributed to the members.
Yesterday, PAC chairman Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said a full report on the PKFZ scandal would be ready in three months and would be tabled in Parliament at its sitting in October.
